Osstell ISQ Scale Implant Stability Meter
Osstell ISQ Scale Implant Stability Meter – ISQ, or Implant Stability Quotient, is a scale from 1 to 100 and is a measure of the stability of an implant. The ISQ scale has a non-linear correlation to micro mobility. With more than 1000 scientific references, we now know that high stability means >70 ISQ, between 60-69 is medium stability and < 60 ISQ is considered as low stability.
The Osstell ISQ Scale is an objective world standard for measuring implant stability. The clinical range of ISQ is normally 55-80. Higher values are generally observed in the mandible than in the maxilla. The Osstell scale has a non-linear correlation to micro mobility. With more than 1000 scientific references, we now know that high stability means >70 ISQ, between 60-69 is medium stability and < 60 ISQ is considered as low stability. If the initial value is high, a small drop in stability normally levels out with time. A big drop in stability or decrease should be taken as a warning sign. Lower values are expected to be higher after the healing period. The opposite could be a sign of an unsuccessful implant and actions should be considered.
Osstell ISQ Scale is short for “Implant Stability Quotient”. The scale runs from 1 to 100 and corresponds to the resonance frequency in a close to linear way. The reason for using instead of the resonance frequency expressed in Hz, is simply because it is easier to communicate. The scale was determined in 2003, and 1 correspond approximately to 1,000 Hz and 100 correspond approximately to 10,000 Hz. The early scientific studies were used to determine how the scale should relate to Hz and numerous clinical studies after that have put the scale in a clinical context, relating to treatment adn loading protocols.
The Osstell ISQ Scale is the third generation of RFA technology based instruments for the assessment of implant stability and osseointegration. A probe, which can be sterilized or covered with a sleeve, attaches to the instrument via a cable. The Osstell value is displayed on a screen within seconds of proximity to the SmartPeg. The instrument will store up to 400 measurements and can be connected to a computer via a USB cable for storage in the Data Manager program. A power charger is used to recharge the battery.
